Beer has been a part of Latvian folklore and celebrations for centuries, enjoyed at all gatherings and Festivals along with traditional song, dance, art and culture. At this year’s XVI Latvian Song and Dance Festival in Grand Rapids, MI, guests and participants will be able to enjoy a Latvian style beer – Svētku Pils – which will be available on tap at several venues and Founders Taproom throughout the Festival.
Sharing knowledge, techniques, and tradition is what makes this brew unique – a collaboration of brewmasters between two renowned craft breweries: Founders Brewing Company here in Grand Rapids, and Valmiermuiža Brewery, Valmiera, Latvia. They have created a beer that blends local Grand Rapids craftsmanship with inspiration from one of Latvia’s most beloved breweries and their flavors. The collaboration, “Svētku Pils”, is physically being brewed just blocks from the Festival home base – Amway Grand.
Both Founders and Valmiermuiža are unique, in that they feel a deep connection to their communities. Resolute in their support of arts and cultural events, as well a commitment to the environment and social equity. In addition, Valmiermiuža has long been a sponsor and supporter of the centuries old Latvian Song Festival, celebrated every five years in Rīga, Latvia.
We look forward to sharing a beer with you! More details will come, but you can expect to find Svētku Pils on tap at Zaļumballe, the Rendezvous bar at Amway Grand, Svētku Balle, Rokvakars, and Founders Taproom.
The Festival’s organizing committee is grateful to both Founders and Valmiermuiža for their meaningful contribution to the 2026 Festival.
